Een echte samenzwering is een aantoonbaar, geheim complot (zoals MKUltra, Watergate of de tabakslobbycampagnes van de jaren zestig). Een samenzweringstheorie is een onbewijsbare bewering over een geheime macht. De grenzen zijn vaag, en dat maakt dit onderwerp zo fascinerend.
